A (broad): The slab, which may or may not be complete, contains a cross in relief, type B6. It has in the centre a raised boss surrounded by a deep groove.
This cross-slab could be part of a gravestone or could, like those at Dinsdale (no. 9) or Monkwearmouth (nos. 28-9), be a dedication cross, associated with the building or rebuilding of the church in the pre-Conquest period. Although the arm shape is the same as that on these other stones, this example does not have the arms attached to a broad central roundel; the simple boss is reminiscent of free-armed types such as Tynemouth 6.
