A (broad): Incomplete Latin inscription in Anglo-Saxon capitals. The one complete edge has a single roll moulding:
— BERCHTI:
— E]DVERI:
— C]·CRVCEM:
B (narrow): Part of a row of straight balusters.
Okasha (1971, 86) considers that the first two lines may represent the genitive case of two personal names dependent on the noun crucem. Certainly the first line reads like the end of a personal name, but in the light of the unusual quotation on 16a-b it would be unwise to assume that this is a typical memorial formula. The form of the lettering is very like that on 13, and is typically well set out. The smooth dressing and the baluster edging is also found in 13, and they could be part of the same monument.
