B (narrow): Continuous but changing interlace is enclosed in a broad roll moulding. At the top is a bold half pattern D, which skilfully changes below to a turned pattern D of a higher cord count.
Pattern D is also used on the Durham stones 5-6, on the St Oswald's shaft (Durham 1), and pattern D elements are also common at Lindisfarne. Stuart's drawing tends to give the impression of a greater competence than actually seems possible.
