A: The central panel is plain and recessed, and is surrounded by a fine roll moulding. On one edge is a border of five large pellets.
B and D: Smoothly dressed.
C: Smoothly dressed but there is a half-circular recession which may be original.
It is difficult to decide upon the function of this piece. If it is a block impost, the decoration is more reasonable. Such heavy pellets and cables tend to be late. It is unlike any other pre-Conquest fragment in the combination of form and decoration.
