Description

a (eastern): The window opening is formed from two monolithic round-headed stones; the wider, facing the interior, is ornamented on its vertical face by two irregular concentric incised lines. On the soffit of the stone are three concentric incised lines linked by angular incisions which give the impression of `wheat-ear' or chevron ornament. The shallow head, which faces the exterior, also has shallow concentric grooves on the outer face and a single line of `wheat-ear' ornament incised on the soffit.

b (western): The window opening is formed as for a, and the outer and inner vertical faces of the round heads are ornamented with concentric incised lines, but the soffit faces are plain.

Discussion

This ornament has been compared by Taylor and Taylor (1965, 535) with that at Heysham and Somerford Keynes. It is, however, as they say, much more tentative than these, and that on a has an unfinished appearance.
