Discussion

Appendix A item (stones dating from Saxo-Norman overlap period or of uncertain date).

This form of cross in which the arms are attached to a large flat centre seems to be a late type. Such roundheaded markers are also found at Birtley (no. 4) and Bolam (no. 1).
