Only one face now carries ornament. The recut sides taper to a roof pitch. The gable-end is vertical and carries a naturalistic carving of a standing woman in a long dress. She holds a child.
This is one of the few shrine tombs in the region and it is difficult to postulate its relationship with hogbacks because of damage. The carving is primitive as well as naturalistic, and could be of any age. It most probably represents the Virgin and Child, though the other depictions in the region show Mary seated and, in the case of Nunburnholme 1, nimbed (see Nunburnholme 1 (Ill. 723) and Sutton upon Derwent 1 (Ill. 868)).
