On the flat top of the stone is an inset plain moulding, roughly incised, which turns across the end of the tapering slab. Superimposed, and semicircular in section, a medial ridge of hefty proportions runs down the centre of the slab.
There is little here that is decorative enough to be diagnostic in terms of dating or stylistic influence. The prominent ridge should be compared with the York slab series: Minster 45 (Ill. 186) closely resembles this piece; it was found in an eleventh-century context.
