No dressed face survives; the carved face is slightly battered.
Description
This is a deeply carved leaf, apparently naturalistic, perhaps oak. Part of the face, with a strongly marked central spine, and the left side survive, with part of the top and a very small part of the right side towards the top. The relief is up to 4 cm deep on the left.
Discussion
This piece is very three-dimensional, as are Winchester (Old Minster) no. 67 (found in the same layer), and nos. 69–70 (found near-by in the same context). See Winchester (Old Minster) no. 67.
