A (broad) : Carved on this face only. The edge moulding is double, each strand being narrow, the inner one median-incised. On the right the outer edge moulding is broader than the inner median-incised one. It turns into the neck of the shaft at the top.
B and D (narrow) and C (broad) : Plain.
The inner median-incised moulding typifies the minor differences within the Plain Cross series at Whitby. Dr John Senior points out that close examination of the dimensions and materials of nos. 6, 7 and 8 suggest these to be broken parts of the same cross.
