Stone type: Fine-grained, poorly sorted, feldspathic sandstone with prominent bedding planes parallel to the main flat faces of the grave-marker. Very pale brown, but partially burnt and oxidised to a reddish brown colour (2.5YR 5/4). Although an inferior stone, probably still from the deltaic sandstones of the Aislaby Quarries (see no. 1).

Description
Part of a rectangular slab with central grooved stem outlined by roll mouldings and triple incised edge mouldings.
Discussion
This seems to be the central portion of a grave-marker or -cover with a central cross, only the stem of which survives. Compare nos. 40, 41 and 42.
