Found outside east end of the church by D.C. in 1999, now with nos. 3, 4 and 8 inside.
Evidence for Discovery
First noted by R.C. in 1960. 'Against the inside of the N. wall of the church' when recorded by Morris (1976a, 145).

Description

A (broad) : Part of a deep pelleted border enclosing median-incised interlace which forms a pattern F unit with U-bend terminals.

B (narrow) and C (broad) : Broken away.

D (narrow) : Smoothly dressed and probably original.

Discussion

Although this piece does not join directly to Wycliffe 8, it is either part of that feature or of its pair, since the style of carving and the elements of the interlace and pellets are identical. For further discussion see no. 8.
