Only Stuart's drawing survives to form a basis for comment. A wide frame encloses five registers of simple pattern E. The strands are median-incised.
This drawing gives a similar appearance to Chester-le-Street 3 which also has median-incised strands. Pattern E knots are, however, common in the later Saxon period (see Aycliffe 2 and Hart 2 and 4).
