Description

A (top): Edged by a wavering grooved moulding. Towards the upper end is a small relief cross, with a plain shaft and cross-head, type A12.

Discussion

Appendix A item (stones dating from Saxo-Norman overlap period or of uncertain date).

The type of cross when found on smaller stones seems to be late (see Warkworth 2). This piece has few diagnostic features, but could possibly have covered a stone coffin.
