Description

At the top and curving across the face is a bold flat-band moulding. Within the curve are two rows of four bold pellets; below, a single larger pellet and a rectangular feature in relief.

Discussion

The stone type of this is the same as 4 and the bold style of carving is similar to both imposts (3-4). Hodges (1925) saw this as part of a panel bearing the device of a cross. It is possible to see the rectangular feature as the horizontal arm of a small cross. If the moulding makes a cross, then it would have to be type F10 and on a massive scale.

Date
Possibly first half of eighth century
