A (broad): A relief cross of type B6 set on a recut octagonal background. In its centre is a rosette formed of seven sunken petals.
Appendix A item (stones dating from Saxo-Norman overlap period or of uncertain date).
This could be one of the dedication or `station' crosses of an early stone church. The form of the cross whereby the arms are cut off by a large circular centre to give angular flat-based arm-pits does not seem to occur before the late Saxon or overlap period (see Warden 5). The sharply-cut petalled ornament would also fit this period.
