Description

Head, type A10.

A and C (broad): Interlace enclosed in a shallow roll moulding. Both faces have variations of patterns E and B beginning as eight-cord patterns and dropping the cord count to six.

B and D (narrow): Plain.

Discussion

The shape of the head and its interlace type seem to link with mid to late ninth-century forms. It is possible that there was some continuing activity at Tynemouth at that date (see no. 1).

Date
Late ninth to early tenth century
