Hogback, type h. On the south side the steeply pitched roof carries three rows of worn tegulation of type 2b separated from each other by a plain moulding. The wall beneath the eaves is not recessed. On the wall are two horizontal rows of ornament; at the top is a series of free rings and long diagonals placed over a strip of running spiral scroll with pellets. The ground at either end of the wall and below the ornament has not been cut back to form a panel.
The plain moulding between rows of tegulation can be paralleled in Cumbria on Aspatria 6. The combination of scroll and interlace is unique in placing the scroll as the lower element, though there are several examples of the reverse arrangement scattered across hogbacks in the north. The stripped scroll has an exact parallel on the 'Giant's Thumb' (Penrith 2) near by. The lack of a clear panel border at the bottom of the stone is a local characteristic for it recurs on Penrith 7 and on Lowther 4 and 5.
