Slab-shaped cross-shaft. Decoration is only visible on one broad face and is framed by a roll-moulded border.
A (broad): Spiral-scroll arranged in a bush/tree scroll manner with the side branches set at right angles to the main stem. The spiralling scrolls hint at triskele and other symbolic shapes and several of the branches terminate in foliate forms, including one trefoil leaf.
Spiral-scroll school (Introduction, pp. 33–8). This form of spiral-scroll, using a central stem, is closely paralleled on Beckermet St John 2 and the identical spacing between horizontal side-shoots on both carvings suggests the use of a similar grid or identical template and that they are works of the same hand.
