There is a wide ridge of double cable, and, flanking it on either side, a narrow panel of worn interlace, probably three-strand plain plait, using median-incised strands. The sides below are plain.
The end beast's face lies on top, the angle of the head sloping with the hipped end. The large head is muzzled. To one side is a drilled hole. The eyes are incised circles and a label extends across the crown. There are traces of a fore leg reaching to the interlace pattern.
This is part of a transitional type of hogback: types d and f. The horizontal panel echoes the usage of the extended niche type but the end beast is vestigial. It is an unambitious piece but the only York hogback to have an end beast.
