Found in archaeological excavation north of Winchester cathedral in 1966 in rubble deriving from north wing added to nave of Old Minster during tenth century; Final Phase 68-70 (Provisional Phase 1099), twelfth-century

Present Condition
No bed faces survive; the carved surface is battered.
Description
The pattern, which is incomplete, consists of three horizontal steps, projecting up to 3.5 cm from the background.
Discussion
This fragment could be part of an elaborate string, but is more likely to come from a complex scene.
