Discussion

These three are probably parts of the same grave-cover of mid-Kesteven type (Chapter V). If correctly interpreted, 2b and c were originally close to each other, separated by a vertical moulding which is now missing, whereas the decorated face of 2a represents the opposite side panel at the other end of the cover (see reconstruction in Fig. 9). The cover represented seems to be absolutely characteristic of the group in its layout and style of decoration. The mid-Kesteven grave-cover group as a whole is dated to the period between the mid tenth and the early eleventh century.
