Present Condition
Very damaged and worn
Description

A (broad) : There is a double edge moulding. The outer moulding is damaged but was probably a roll; the inner one is plain and broad. Within is a vertical run of apparently closed circuit interlace, possibly pattern E, in well modelled strand.

B (narrow) : Damaged.

C (broad) : This has been dressed, but, especially at the right, is a plain edge moulding, possibly once a roll. The face is worn and covered with mortar, but the top and right-hand edge of a panel of (?) basket plait survives as loop profiles and a series of hole points in line.

D (narrow) : Covered with mortar, but a plain edge moulding survives on the right. Parts of the edge of a three-cord plait remain within the panel.

Discussion

Collingwood's drawing of face A (Ill. 486) should be modified: there is no symmetrical loop serving as a terminal, and the strands are continuous. The quality of the cutting, where it survives, earned Collingwood's approval.
