One arm and the centre of a cross-head. Collingwood's is the only record.
A (broad) : A central circular boss is surrounded by a cable ring. An expanding straight-sided arm, probably type B6, has lost its tip. It was 'neatly chiselled and with the grooves on the arm incised'.
B and D (narrow) : Broken.
C (broad) : As face A.
Appendix A item (stones dating from Saxo-Norman overlap period or of uncertain date).
Collingwood thought this part of a late wheel-head, presumably because stumps of the ring survived. The lateness of the piece may even extend into the Romanesque period. Kendall compared it with the cable ornamented grave-markers at Whitby, nos. 57 and 58 (Ills. 1168–71, 1176–9), on the other side of the bay (Kendall 1932, 27, pl. facing 28).
