Object type: Cross-head fragment [1]
Measurements: H. 23.2 cm (9.1 in) W. 17 > 7.3 cm (6.7 > 2.9 in) D. 9.5 > 9.2 cm (3.8 > 3.6 in)
Stone type: Fine-grained micaceous sandstone, with sub-angular grains. Reddish brown (7.5YR 6/6–7/6). Bedding planes parallel to the main cross-head faces. Axe dressed on one main face, the arm cusps point dressed and smoothed. Deltaic sandstone from the Saltwick Formation, Aalenian, Middle Jurassic, from the Whitby area.

A (broad) : The wide curving arm-pits of a type 10 cross-head has a gentle convex tip to the single surviving arm. The surface is plain, except for the ?underside of one arm which is roughly pecked.
B–E: Plain and finely dressed.
Clearly of the same family as nos. 1, 2 and others in the Plain Cross series, this belongs to the subgroup with no edge moulding.
