Description

A and C (broad): A clearly cut cross, type B6, set in a circular flat-band moulding. Below the carved area the stone has been cut away into a more rectangular section presumably for setting into the ground.

B, D and E (narrow sides and top): Plain.

Discussion

Appendix A item (stones dating from Saxo-Norman overlap period or of uncertain date).

Such stones, no doubt head- or foot-stones, are difficult to date (Introduction, p. 7). This cross type seems popular throughout the eleventh century.
