Description

Recumbent slab. Only the top and one long side of this poorly squared stone now carry decoration.

A (top): Framed by a cabled moulding and an inner border is a panel of interlace, apparently a register of half pattern A with bar terminal.

B (long): Bordered by the cable moulding shared with the top and a broad undressed border below; its decoration is of step pattern 2 or an angular twist executed in stopped-plait technique.

Discussion

The undressed lower border on face B and the lack of decoration on the bottom of the stone suggest that this was a slab or tomb-cover similar to Lowther 7, but less competently executed.

Date
Probably tenth century
