Evidence for Discovery

Found in archaeological excavation north of Winchester cathedral in 1967 in demolition rubble over west end of Old Minster; Final Phase 65 (Provisional Phase 1186), early twelfth-century

No dressed face survives; there are traces of burning.

Description

This is a less well preserved part of a running scroll as seen best on Winchester (Old Minster) no. 47 (Ill. 576). The relief is 1.5–2 cm high.
