Description

The Taylors reported that there was 'cable ornament on arris of broken fragment of plinth' (Taylor and Taylor 1966, 50).

Discussion

Appendix C item (lost stones for which no illustration has survived).

The plinth only survives on the north side of the tower. It is hard to understand the present appearance of this plinth as decorated, but it is unclear whether the Taylors were reporting an in situ carving or a detached fragment.

Date
Tenth or eleventh century(?)
