A–E: Fragment of a small free-standing cross which could have been for a finial or grave-marker. The shape seems to be type A/C10. A neat incised moulding outlines the upper and lower surfaces and the end of the arm. A shallow groove on face A appears to be natural.
This simple cross-head may be compared with no. 31, but more detail survives on this example and the confident incised outlines would seem to relate it to the early group at Whitby. See for instance no. 22 (Ills. 973–7).
